In preparation for this trip we visited many web sites. However, there is nothing like having a guardian angel also known as a travel agent to watch over you.
We are is our mid-seventies and this was our eleventh cruise, 6th on Princess. We are therefore Platinum cruisers on Princess which provides some advantages, the biggest one for us is limited free internet (250 minutes on a 10 day cruise). Lovely stay in San Francisco followed by a very pleasant and well managed cruise in great weather.
The Princess web site is user friendly and provides a wealth of information. The only additional item that we wished it offered is the capability of booking specialty restaurants prior to sailing.
Princess gave us an upgrade to a premium balcony stateroom without our asking. Thank you Princess Cruises. The cabin was more than adequate for us. Of note, the balcony on deck 10, one above the mini suites is twice as large as the regular balcony for a standard room with balcony. The only negative that can be said is about the bathroom. The shower is minuscule as it is 27 inches by 27 inches. They also only provide body gel soap and gel shampoo. We bought a soap bar for our trip. Details like that deter from the excellence of the rest; it was all that the passengers talked about. The sink overflow drain is not connected to the sewer; rather it empties directly on the shelf below the sink. It is therefore important not to put anything that can be affected by water on that shelf. There are minor technical issues that are likely age related such as bathroom door that does not close properly or toilet cover that is loose. Contrary to what we had read the vacuum toilet system worked just fine and there were no bad odors anywhere on the ship. This is a grand old Princess. As is usually the case, we had a very good room steward who was very attentive to our needs and always cheerful.
