First cruise as an adult for me, as I sailed with my husband out of San Juan in late February. I had learned a lot from the reviews and forums on this website, and all that advice was really helpful! We greatly enjoyed our week on the Celebrity Summit, and not just because we missed some awful weather back home. We’re in our early 60s, happy introverts, and this was the best vacation we’ve had in many full moons. So here’s the story…

EMBARK AND DISEMBARK As first-timers, we took advantage of airport to ship transfers in both directions. Signage at San Juan was clear when we arrived, and we only waited about 10 minutes before the van ride to the cruise terminal. Embarkation was smooth and easy. We changed into the carried-on shorts and Tshirts and started exploring the ship. The crew and staff we met were friendly, helpful, and took extra time all week to connect with us. On the last morning, everything also went smoothly, although with longer lines and waiting around.

FAVORITES Over the week, these were our favorite moments on the Summit:

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2C

Cabin 2C

This wonderful room is the furthest aft of the port-side “sweet sixteen” rooms on the Summit. These rooms, eight on each side of deck six, have extra veranda (twice as much!) for the same 2C veranda price. The reason, which you can’t see on the deck plans, is that they extend like the lifeboats. Half of the veranda is covered from above, and half is under the stars – a great spot for a private evening meal. Our room was kept very clean, our bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning/heating worked well and was not intrusive. There was plenty of storage. Strategic mirrors make it seem larger, but it’s a small room making the most of its available square footage. The bathroom was large enough for us and the exhaust fan was effective. We loved the shower – large or tall people might find it too small.Things to consider if you choose this room – it’s a long way forward, so we rocked and rolled for the first choppy and windy 36 hours at sea. If you’re prone to seasickness, choose a midships room instead.
