Sail Date: Jan 2015

I sailed on the Getaway at the end of January as a solo female traveller. It was my third cruise having previously sailed on P&O Azura and NCL Epic. I was very pleased to get an upgrade from a Studio Cabin to Mini Suite for a small amount more which vastly improved my cruise experience. The bathroom was luxurious and the balcony was small but so nice to watch the fireworks from and port arrival/departures. As mentioned previously on CC you can have your card altered so that you have access to the Studio Lounge - although the staff didn't seem to know about this! If you don't have toiletries with you apparently you can request some and NCL will provide you with the basics!

I went to my first Meet & Mingle on the Sunday morning with a couple of people I had met from the Studio Lounge (which is much smaller than on the Epic) so had friends to talk to which made it easier. As a result of this I surprisingly received a lovely bottle of champagne and chocolate coated strawberries which were waiting for me in my cabin the next day so well worth it and thank you very much NCL!

I arrived at the Port of Miami just before 11am and was through security within 20 minutes and then had to wait until nearly 12 o'clock before being allowed to embark so there really isn't much point arriving any earlier. Once on board I had a quick look around the ship and then went to Le Bistro to reserve a table because it books up fast with quite a lot of passengers being offered free meals there as a perk.

Cabin Review

The cabin was fairly spacious and had lots of great storage hidden away behind attractive shiny wooden doors. The bed was beside the balcony door which I preferred. It had a fully stocked mini bar and a coffee maker. It had American and European sockets which were very useful. On the top shelf in the wardrobe were 2 bathrobes which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, I didn't sleep well because of various noises throughout the night including creaking sounds coming from the balcony and what sounded like chairs being dragged along the floor in the middle of the night - possibly cleaners in a restaurant? The bathroom was spacious and well appointed with a double washbasin, large walk-in shower with jets (water pressure was a bit low but manageable) and plenty of storage including a long shelf in front of the mirror for accessories!
