My family consists of me, my husband and 2 boys, aged 7 and 10. Travel from Vancouver airport to Port of Miami was a complete disaster and I would never recommend flying in the morning of your cruise. After 2 airplane delays and 45 minutes sitting on the Miami airport tarmac due to a system outage, we were literally running to catch the cruise before sailing at 4:00PM...luckily there were another 4 couples on the same flight and literally trying to catch the same boat.

This is when Carnival customer service really kicked in high gear...we kept in touch with Carnival by calling them from our delayed flight in Toronto and then when we were on the Miami tarmac after landing. The customer service representative was brilliant and called us for a status update every 15 minutes to see where we were at. We had to leave our luggage at the airport and be rushed in a 10 minute taxi ride ($24 USD) to the Port of Miami. There was a Carnival representative at the airport that took down our luggage tag numbers -keep these safe and don't throw them out! When my family and I reached the port, along with the other couples from our flight, there were about 5 Carnival representatives waiting to rush us in into the ship. Once in we were guided to the muster drill which was about to commence...we were moving within 10 minutes of boarding the ship!

Next stop was guest services to get information on our luggage, guest services was FANTASTIC! They jotted down the luggage tag numbers and all relevant information and then called Air Canada to sort out the situation. After a lengthy call with Air Canada, guest services said to leave it in their hands as they would connect with the airline 2-3 times a day until our luggage was confirmed to be received at the first port, Ocho Rios, 2 nights later. In the mean time we were provided with 4 complimentary laundry coupons, 4 20% off coupons at the funshops and 2 complimentary toiletries packages. Guest services also called the children's club to arrange T-shirts for the kids as there were no kids clothes for sale on the ship. The children's club was wonderful and provided a T-shirt for each day of our cruise for each of our kids with fabric colors - unbelievably great.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8B

Splurging on the balcony was worth it, we would definitely do it again. This room is a little far from the elevators, next time I would book closer to them. You can hear music and singing from the Red Frog Restaurant in the evenings if your balcony is open - it was really nice. In terms of size, it's a typical ship cabin, small but sufficed (1 queen bed, 2 singles one of which was a pull down)...were able to get all 3 large suitcases under the bed.
