The Dawn Princess was late into Auckland after a torrid crossing of the Tasman out of Melbourne. We were still able to board her at 130pm and have a look around. As we were joining an already established cruise, it was a bit odd to work out where you were going without the usual staff who welcome you aboard and answer your questions. That wasn't a problem though, it was easy to work out where everything was.
Our cabin was small but adequate, with plenty of storage especially for just a 13 night trip.
Due to the late arrival, the dining on the first night was changed from predetermined times to anytime dining. First meal was average and we were concerned that the standard onboard was going to be pretty low. Next night we went to out late sitting and the meal was excellent as was the service. We had an issue with not receiving a table for two as requested, but the maitre d sorted us out at different tables then after a couple of days managed to find us a permanent spot. Food was overall very good. We had done a Cunard cruise last year and were spoilt with the quality of that, so this was just a little bit lower standard than that but still very good.
Small but adequate. Good storage. Miniscual bathroom, but that's standard for cruising. Shower was ok size.My wife is an Eskimo (not really but she loves the cool) so we took a small fan onboard-worked really well as the aircon was pretty ineffective.Shower floor was peeling (not pleasant) and the toilet had seen better days, but they were clean.
