Getaway might as well put Mickey Mouse ears on its side.

My husband and I just came off the Getaway and were SOOO disappointed on the cruise. There were some pluses - getting on and off the ship was fast and easy and there is a no smoking policy on the balconys. But the negatives outweighed those. Children's activities and drinking bars are predominately what is on this ship. Do not expect any place except your cabin, to be quiet. There is no place to sit and peacefully watch the Sea or talk with friends. Everywhere we went it was loud, loud, loud. Food is just so-so. Moderno salad bar was great and the pineapple on the skewers is wonderful but unless you like your steak, lamb chops etc. VERY well done (even at 5:30 pm), skip it. Cagney's steak house had a good steak but the rest of the meal was equal to what you'd get at Denney's. The $79 charge for the tour of the ship will give you a about a 20 minute film of how NCL got started, 20 minute info-mercial on recycling, about 30 minutes on how they wash the sheets and fold them, a zip in and out of freezers to see boxes of meat and a few minutes on the bridge where the captain and crew are off limits + a picture of yourself with a chef hat and whisk. The pictures taken when you come on board are 8 X 10's and cost $24 each. You can't even peek into the Ice bar unless you pay the $20 charge (I think it includes 2 drinks but not positive on that part). All the gift shops are run by the same people as on other ship lines. If you've been on Carnival, you see the same brands and items on NCL. BORING! They had a couple of sales that had a few items worthwhile but hordes of people for 5 items of worth, doesn't cut it. Then they just hawked the rest of the stuff like you were at a flea market auction. There was a small dog on the ship we saw several times. Not a problem per se until it was being passed around in the Garden Café. Dogs shouldn't be where the food is. Legally blond was "cute". Screechy sometimes. The first two days at sea were ugly, not NCL's fault but bad weather. However, the closet doors banging because there is no bottom runner, is. On the first nice day, while sitting in port beside Disney ship (they're slide was open with the little rafts going down), the kid's pool was closed for cleaning so kids were in the adult pool. The slides were not open until much later and also then the kids pool was opened. O'Sheehan's food is so-so again. We had fish and chips, with more batter than fish. On rib night, my husband had ribs there and he said they were good. I had a hamburger that wasn't. We went on the Zip line in St. Thomas and it was terrific. 6 lines, very safety conscience folks. Some people told us 6 lines wasn't enough but believe me, if you've never done it before, you'll be tired after 6. Anyway, there's more but who cares. It boils down to we looked forward to his vaca for several months, counting down, etc., all for one big disappointment. I think NCL missed the mark on so many places on this ship. Artwork by LEBO painted on the ship doesn't equal fun while cruising. We were on deck 10 mid ship and with rough seas, lots of movement, but also on deck 6 in the Casino, you felt like you had to hold onto your chair.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BB

Room was ok. They put the closet and shelves along the length of one side of the bed. You have about 6-8 inches between the bed and closet. Also between the bed corner and TV/Refer/Coffee etc., cabinet you had about 8 inches. So you crab walked beside the bed for the closed and sat on the bed to get into it and the same to get through to the sofa and balcony. Nice to have refer and coffee pot. I thought there was a lot of storage for the two of us. They have a hassock that has storage that doubles as a table for in front of your sofa. You can take the wooden top off and use it as a tray if you want to bring food/drinks back from the Café. VERY NICE closing doors. When you closed the door to the balcony and put the lever up, it really shut out the outside noise. You put your key card in a slot when you come in the room and that lets you turn on the lights. If you don't put your card in you can't. Also has a button to push when you leave for housekeeping. Nice. TV service to see your bill, and what's going on etc.
