I love to cruise so when I read several of the negative reviews for the Quantum I was really concerned. After all, I booked my reservation 18 months in advance anticipating her launch. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! I am really dumbfounded at the negative posts about this ship. From the moment we arrived at the port to the time we disembarked, was absolutely amazing.

We were excited to explore the ship right away and find out where everything was. I was so excited at the layout of the ship. Numerous places to just sit and relax (that were not inside of a bar) and nice wide corridors so you weren't bumping into everyone. The decor was beautiful. I really wasn't certain how Two70 was gonna to play out, but it turned out to be one of our favorite places to just hang out, look out over the waters through the 270 degree of open window, and play a game of cards, or read, or just rest. The cafe found there has the most amazing roast beef sandwiches (be sure and ask for a bowl of au jus). Our exploration took us inside of Sorrento's for a quick slice of pizza and snacks right next door. Now, I will say that I wish they had a better set up for drinks. I don't think you should have to pay extra for sodas (which I don't really drink many of anyway) or specialty coffee. Seriously, I spent a lot of money to be on the ship and I think it's just a little chintzy to charge, but they all do it, so...moving on......

The food offerings were really good. We were very satisfied with Windjammer and the quality of food. We have been on several cruise lines, and in our opinion, Royal has the best food. They actually season it. The dynamic dining is a nice idea, getting you away from the masses that gather in the formal dining room setting. It also gives you that feeling of dining in a "for charge" specialty venue, which again, after spending a lot of money to cruise, I wish they would simply do away with and let everyone experience the various dining options. That being said, the dynamic dining restaurants we visited were Coastal Kitchen. (Not impressed) The flatbread pizza's were very good, but I left feeling a bit let down. The entree's were bland and overall just not very good. Next we ate at Chic. The food again, was not very tasty, and the service was just average. Now, let me say that we are not "dining" folks and don't really like being "waited" on, so when I say the service was average, that's coming from someone who is not really picky. I just don't like to ask for more coffee and water. That's pretty basic. The next restaurant was Silk. That one was wonderful!!! Tons of food with great flavor. Very unique options and the staff was terrific! Two thumbs up there. The last one we tried was the American Icon, for breakfast. I was less than impressed. Service was bad. Food was cold. We were supposed to go there for dinner, but canceled. That left the Windjammer as our favorite venue for lunch and dinner and again, it was very good. We typically had room service for breakfast. We ate light, with fruits and cereals. Not once was it not delivered as requested.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D6

Our cabin was very nicely appointed and the storage was amazing. Tons of storage for hangup, draws, overheads, etc. I packed 2 large suitcases and two smaller ones and had plenty of room for everything. They have designed the beds so the suitcases, even my large ones, slid right underneath for easy storage during the cruise. We had a balcony room and though small, the balcony served its purpose. Many complained about the temperature of the rooms. The only time we really experienced this was after the door was opened for an extended period of time, since the air won't run while the door is open. I admit, I do like to leave my door opened, but honestly, it was really not a big deal. Many nights we left the door open while sleeping. There was enough breeze to not require the air conditioner to be on. The bathroom was what you would expect, size wise, in a standard room, but it was well planned and the shower was very roomy. Now, they don't leave you shampoo automatically, but I left my room steward a note and he gladly left me shampoo and conditioner. Some have made a big deal about this, but it really does make economic sense since many people bring their own.
