Myself and boyfriend took our 1st cruise ever on the Carnival Valor out of San Juan. We are from PA. We choose to leave out of San Juan since we would mainly cruise in the Caribbean sea were waters hopefully would be calmer, because we were not sure if we would become sea sick as I am prone to motion sickness. Not to have worried as I never felt ill or even took anything for sea sickness even on the 2 catamaran tours we took I was fine as was my boyfriend. We also choose the Valor for its heavy port itinerary, with only 1 day at sea.

As for the cruise itself, we had a great time and loved the Valor. It was not a new ship or fancy/luxury, was a little dated and worn but for what we paid for the trip we have no complaints. Food was good not great, we actually preferred the buffets to the dinning room and I generally do not do buffets. 24 hr pizza was very good and fresh. Best nights to eat in the dinning rooms are the formal nights as food is better (lobster/filet ect ...) reminded me of Casino/cafeteria food on other nights. Serenity deck Bar was great, Olivia bar tender always there and so nice, remembered what we liked to drink and made suggestions for others she thought we should try. Also the Martini/Wine bar was another great bar area. The coffee offered in dinning area's and Lido deck was not good, so we got our coffee every morning at the Java Café for Espresso and Latte 's was very good and services was awesome. I don't remember servers name but everyday she remembered our names and what we wanted, she even put fresh cookies aside for us to pick up later in the evening after dinner so they would not sell out.

There was always something going on at all times, every night the room steward assigned to your cabin would leave the next days Fun Times brochure with all activities/port info/and entertainment for the following day. I cant really speak on the shows and entertainment on the ship as we really did not do any of those things. We did hear bands as we walked around different areas of the ship and they all sounded good. We did like Ben and would hear him everyday outside on the Lido deck when we got back from port and would go up to deck for departure and to view the sunsets (which were spectacular, do not miss).

Room was a good size, clean. Room Steward was great. Left us towel animals every night with chocolates on our pillow. You will not need an alarm clock as you know when you are docking as the anchors are right under you and you can hear and feel them coming out at port.
