Spent some preliminary time in Charleston and enjoyed the culinary tour (the one that started at the south end brewery). King Charles Inn was quaint, reasonably priced, and nicely located. As the others indicated, it's tough to find alternative cruise parking unless you are staying in a motel that allows it. (King Charles did not.) I made a last-minute effort to park at a nearby bike shop that had a small lot; I offered $50 for 5 nights. Unfortunately, the owner was not expected back until after our embarkation. So, we paid to park at the cruise port.
The ship was nice! Jeez, what do some of these people want for 400 bucks? Think about it... That's two nights in a Washington D.C. hotel without food! OK, so it wasn't the biggest of the fleet that parked at Nassau. Did you know that the Fantasy is bigger than the Titanic! Yes, I suppose that there could have been more and bigger hot tubs. At least they had one that was for adults only. The ones that were open to kids were SRO and probably filled with pee and the germs that accompany children. The pool was pretty small and strewn with kids as well. That's fine; I preferred swimming in the pristine seawater anyway.
We were going to sign up for the ship tour to see the engines and turbines or whatever (the nitty gritty), but it sounded like we would just be seeing the "control room" areas. There were other things included in the package that did not excite us... So, we passed.
