We just returned from Cuba where we stayed at Varadero for one week and then went around the Island on the Louis Crystal Cuba Cruise. Another poster was accurate when he said the this ship is mediocre and the food is mostly cafeteria fare. They nickel and dime you for everything (key for safe, visit to bridge) and the tours are expensive. You can usually see the same things and go to the same places by getting off the ship and bargaining with a taxi driver who usually has an old car.

Also, we had booked an "IE deluxe inside cabin" but the room we received looked nothing like the picture on their website. It was small and cramped with 10 inches between the bed and wall. There were no cabinets like in the picture or a chair, only a small 18" triangular counter and small stool below it and an old TV with very little floor space. We went to Reception and were told that there was only one cabin that matched the picture - all the other ones in this category were like the one we received - extremely small. Reception told us that we would have to wait till morning before anything could be done. That night the cabin made us claustrophobic. The next morning we were offered two cabins as an upgrade. We selected the "XF deluxe outside" cabin which was exactly as per the picture on the website. We were told the upgrade would be $700. When we questioned the amount we were told the cost was $50/day pp. We let them know that this would only be $600 for the upgrade because we had slept one night in the closet cabin. They would not give us the 15% discount that we would have received had we booked the XF Deluxe outside cabin in the first place even though the first cabin we received was not what we paid for. Although the 15% discount was on their own website when we booked, we were told by the Manager for cabins that we would have to go to our Travel Agent if we wanted it

We enjoyed seeing Cuba, but didn't enjoy the cruise.

Cabin Review

The cabin we received was not the same one as the picture on their website. We met others on the cruise who also received small, cramped claustrophobic cabin instead of what they had booked. Apparently there is only one cabin that matches the picture. We upgraded to XF Deluxe Outside and it was really nice though the shower leaked and left a large puddle on the floor. We repeatedly told our cabin steward but nothing was done.
