My wife and I just returned today from a cruise to the eastern Caribbean on the Legend of the Seas. I have several observations that I would like to share.

The music venue was fine if what you enjoy is crooners singing slow renditions of songs that might elicit fond memories to a much older age group. It could be described as "cocktail music", and it was the most offered live music in the Centrum area. Great for an old folks home. Not so much for a Caribbean cruise with a more diverse spread in passenger demographics. The same can be said about the constant daily music played around the pool deck... all day. It was what one could describe as urban contemporary crooner music performed by black artists mostly. Picture laying around the pool on a Caribbean cruise you have looked forward to for many months and listening to "Hey baby... I've worked so hard.... and I need you to give me some of that thing!" No reggie! No live reggie bands in the evening jamming on the pool deck as was our experience previously on the Grandeur. Whoever determines the music onboard simply does not understand or take into consideration the people who pay for the cruise and their musical likes. I'm 63, and I want lively, uplifting, fun music. Not music that makes one think they are in God's waiting room! At least one of the many bars could have a Caribbean theme with island music.

The food was satisfactory. We enjoyed the convenience of the Park Cafe in the Solarium for most lunches. Their carved roast beef was primo! The buffet in the Windjammer could best be described as on the level as Golden Corral. Now, I like GC and don't intend any disrespect. The food was good, and there was plenty of it. The dinner offering in the dining room in the evening were hit or miss. Thankfully the wait staff knew this, too, and made suggestions as to what dishes were best. Speaking of our wait staff, they all were very professional and we enjoyed our interactions with them. The wait staff were obviously under-staffed, however, with some long wait times between starters, main courses, and desserts. We chose "anytime dining" but settled on a time of 7:30 at table 106 with the same wait staff each evening. The couple with us complained about the food quality on a complaint form provided by the ship, and after making the complaint our reservations were screwed up every evening afterwards. One evening we were told that they didn't even have a reservation for our group of four! We were bounced around between four different tables and four separate waiters for the remainder of the cruise. The food service manager, a young lady from Romania, at first acted as if she appreciated the criticism, but soon would not even look at us. The young man managing the reservations up front was obviously not up to the job. One evening we were told to go to our usual table unescorted only to find other diners already sitting there. We were left just standing in the middle of the dining room! No excuse for that sort of shoddy, vindictive, service!
