This is my second cruise on Royal and we went last year on the Navigator to the western caribbean. And let me just start off i assumed it would be the same great service we had last year and i left the explorer extremely disappointed!!
Embarkation went very smoothly as it always does. We decided to get on the ship early and have lunch and explorer the ship. All was nice until we arrived in our stateroom.
Our stateroom was an outside cabin with a huge window which was very nice. and the conditions of the room seemed okay. the bathroom on the other hand was not so nice. the shower was filled with mold on the floor and on the walls and it was just gross. The door in our bathroom lost one screw one night and the next night lost another. I assume the stateroom attendant never went into the bathroom to clean because we had to advise him the door was falling. He did call someone once we told him, but when the gentlemen came we were showering, so we told him to come back a little later and he never did, so we spent the rest of the trip. Our stateroom attendant did not make up our room everyday. he would have a load of excuses why he didn't make up our room. So when we would see him in the hall we would tell him please make up our room.
I am not sure wether it was the waves, the weather or the captain but this was my 4 cruise and i have never been sea sick before as i was on this cruise, i spent two miserable days at sea. The second day at sea we went to the windjammer to ask for some chicken broth and that is were we met Enrique Gonzaga, a very nice and attentive chef, he brought me a delicious chicken soup and also some slice red and green apples. He was very pleasant and concerned with my wellness. That same day we were on deck 3 purchasing pictures and all of a sudden the ship has slammed that left everyone speechless, one of our friends almost fell over. No one ever came over the loud speaker to advise us what it was which i felt should have been done.
The Food was okay, the servers was fun, quite but fun. We were a group of 8, when we went to Portofino the specialty restaurant with a surcharge of 20 dollars the servers were a bit dry, and one of my friends was very disappointed that he wasn't able to get a second ordering of the second course and no one was allowed to get more then one dessert. When in the main dining room you may order as many things as you would like and no one thinks twice about it.
The casino was fun, i made some money although we feel as the wheel of madness in the black jack table is rigged because i most have hit it like 4 times and got the same amount each time, no one ever got more than 20 dollars on it, but still it was fun!
The port of call are okay we had the most fun in St. Maarten although it rained we had a great time. In St. Thomas i would becareful what taxi you get into they tricked us, they told us they would take to Magens Bay well they took us after he took us like 30 minutes out of our way to drop off someone else, somewhere else and the taxi driver called it "the tour" and the tour was of nothing.
Disembarkation was quick and easy.
