An enjoyable vacation on one of Norwegian’s older ships. We sailed on January 11 from New Orleans. The whole trip was enjoyable except for one dinner at Monderno. I know many of the other reviewers do not like the food, but I am not sure what they are expecting. This is a large floating hotel, not a five star gourmet restaurant. We did not have any food that was bad the entire trip, and some of it was very good. If you are trying to decide which line to cruise on, don’t be put off bad the bad reviews of this ship. Especially if they begin by saying they usually cruise on another line. NCL is not for everyone, but it is definitely for me. I like freestyle. I like deciding when I eat, and who I eat with. The bottom line is that we had a good time, and you can too. I wrote a more detailed review throughout the cruise. It follows this paragraph if you are interested. If not, remember that you are on vacation. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember the Golden Rule, and your manners. Remember that the staff works harder than you, and for a lot less money.
After a night in New Orleans, we have boarded the NCL Dawn. I think this was the fastest, and least painful embarkation yet. I was worried after reading some of the previous reviews, and my own past NCL experience. We arrived about 12:30, and we’re on board, and in our stateroom in about 30 minutes. We are just pushing off now. I am sitting on my starboard balcony, but the fog has rolled in, and I can no longer see the New Orleans skyline. This is my first time to the city, and my first time on the Mississippi. This is cruise number eight with NCL, and number 13 in total. I wish the views were better, but you can’t control the weather.
The cabin is fairly typical for Norwegian. Their cabins have never been the biggest in the industry, but how much space do you need? They always do an excellent job creating storage. Many shelves, cabinets, and nooks and crannies can be found. I like the layout of the bathroom. It is a three piece with doors for both the shower and the toilet. We are in balcony cabin 10076 on the starboard side.
