We just returned from an 8 night Cruise on RCI's Quantum of the Seas. It is a beautiful ship and our party of 10 had a wonderful time. However, there are a few bugs to work. Some highs and lows are outlined below.
First, the boarding process was extremely efficient. We checked in online, including uploading security photos and printing luggage tags before arriving at the port. There was a back up to unload luggage and park ( about 30 minutes), but once we were all in the terminal, we were on the ship in less than 15 minutes. I read, likely here on Cruise Critic, that you need to find a staff person with an iPad to get checked in and we only waited a few minutes to be helped. I did not see any signage telling you to find a staff person, but hope it would be obvious if you were not armed with that knowledge - which of course, you now are.
Rooms are available beginning at 1pm so we went to the Windjammer to grab some lunch. Tables were scarce, but the food was good. By 1pm, our cruise cards and "wrist keys" were waiting for us at our rooms, as was our luggage. We really liked the waterproof wrist keys that are worn like a watch and can be used for everything you normally use your cruise card for, (access your room, buying drinks, shopping on board) except leaving and re-boarding the ship. A great improvement, especially for kids - but also for adults if you don't have pockets or have your hands full when you need to get into your room.
The staterooms are larger than average with well-planned storage. The stateroom bathrooms are the best we have experienced - and I wish I could have taken the shower home with me! (Shampoo etc. is available upon request, but they will not tell you that unless you ask.) Within our party, we had a balcony room, several outside ocean view rooms, and one interior room with the 'virtual balcony’. We all found the rooms very quiet and comfortable. The virtual balcony in my sons' room was glitchy and more gimmick than substance, but I suppose it was better than no view at all. My only real complaint about the staterooms is that the large flat screen televisions are fixed to the wall, so that you can only view tv from the bed. For minimal cost, RCI could have allowed the tv to tilt for viewing from the in-room sofa or vanity, which would have been an appreciated addition. Our stateroom attendant was friendly and did a nice job. However, the attendants do NOT have access to your "Dynamic Dining" itinerary, so it was hard for her to know when to provide evening service. That seems an easy fix and hopefully RCI will address this soon.
