Booked 2 cabins so my family could reunite and celebrate the New Year with other family members spread out across the country. Paid twice to triple for what this cruise normally goes for but was willing and optimistic thinking it would be a memorable, fun way to bring in the New Year...wrong! Our cabin had a huge white pole in the middle of it that completely blocked the television view and was constantly in our way (no such obstruction was noted in room picture or description when I booked the room month ago or I would have never selected it) and bathroom had a continual nasty sewer smell. When I requested a room change was told they were fully booked and no other cabins were available & nothing was ever done about the smell. Purchased the most expensive Ultimate Drink Package and had to wait in super long lines just to get one 6 ounce size glass at a time and sign receipts all week long (didn't seem to have enough bartenders go accommodate all the guests ). We like to sleep in & stay up late but numerous bars would close down around 9pm so had to continually walk around trying to find what was open. After 11pm only entertainment options were DJ in Viking Lounge or casino (we don't gamble) and only food option if didn't want to pay surcharge for room service was Park Cafe which served same nasty pizza or hot dogs all week long. First night in the My Fair Lady main dining room couldn't get in with MyTime Dining until 8pm then the service was so slow it took us over 2 hours to eat and we missed all the shows so we weren't eager to return (plus there were additional surcharges for some options). Food in the WindJammer was mediocre at best. Starbucks Cafe lady was downright rude to me on a couple of occasion, guess that might be because all gratuities are now pre-paid so some don't care. Was really surprised by the number of young kids that were just allowed to run around unsupervised by their parents and they monopolized the hot tubs like they were kiddie swimming pools (the adult Solarium area was too hot & humid plus we wanted some sun time). One highlight of the cruise was they did a cool NYE countdown on the pool deck and we got to watch the Atlantis Resort's fireworks. They tried to do a dance party on the pool deck afterwards but an obviously intoxicated unsupervised young tween/teen boy was dancing on the pool edge and dropped a glass onto the deck which shattered all over us so we just decided to retreat back to our rooms. Only other highlight of the week was that they altered their poolside nightly movie schedule to accomodate numerous adult request to show NCAA college football bowl games instead of the Polar Express the night of Jan 1. Watching Oregon and Ohio State win while lounging in a pool chair was pretty cool until they closed up all the pool bars around 9pm so whoever wanted a drink needed to go way up to the 11th Floor Viking Lounge to get one and then return back and you missed some of the game in the meantime. I guess I just miss the old RCI days of quick, courteous, friendly service; amazing food with no surcharges, ice sculptures, and midnight buffets; lots of entertainment options for all ages; non-stinky rooms and being surprised by a different towel animal creation every night (only got one the entire week).
