Just came back from a New Year's Eve cruise on the Pride and boy was it a disappointment. I have not sailed on Carnival in three years and are the changes incredible and not for the better. It is a good thing that there are only two days at sea because the pools are overcrowded, not enough lounge chairs by the pool, only one hot tub (the other is in the serenity areas 21+) where all the kids crowded and jumped and splashed while you were just enjoying the sun and sea. Hardly any parent monitored their children and there were no officers who would come by and ask you to leave if you acted up in the pool area. I have children who are teens and cannot use the serenity area, trust me I would have preferred to have been there then by the main pools. And speaking of main pool, there was no hot tub because they had to make room for dive in movies (no longer do the Caribbean bands play) and they had to make more seating for Guys (excellent by the way) and Blue Iguana (okay) plus the new rum and tequila bars. Drink specials were not good and they were very expensive. Food in the dining room and the buffets was mediocre, the pizza was poor. I don't know if I am used to leaving out of New York and the food quality is better or has Carnival just cut down on the quality of food. The only hot food I had the entire time on my cruise was soup and tea/coffee/hot cocoa all other was warm which turned to cold within 2 minutes. They have also cut down service. In the main dining room you no longer have one head waiter and an assistant, you have two head waiters share one assistant which relates to slower service and lukewarm food. I never had the heart to send it back because the waiters were always in a frenzy and I did not want to bother them. By the pools, they did not have they servers they used to. Because we wanted to use the hot tub, we went to the forward pool which has no bars. Unfortunately, the servers did not come that often and when they did, they came one on top of each other, not spread out so that there was always someone available to get your kids a soda (soda card) or you wanted something. I find it amazing that they cut the service yet they increased the recommended gratuity. I will gladly tip well for good service, but the service was as mediocre as they food. The exception was our cabin steward, Rafael, who was excellent. This 2.0 rehab that Carnival just did on the Pride should have been a 10.0 rehab and a complete overhaul of the ship that desperately needs a complete overhaul.

Cabin Review

Extended Balcony

Cabin steward, Rafael was excellent, cabin not so much. While it was clean and always put back in order, it was shabby. Beds were hard, pillow crappy, bathroom floor and shower stall were both peeling and need to be replaced. Balcony was shaky and would dip down when you went to stand near the railing. Felt very unsafe. I had an extended balcony, did not seem that big for an extended balcony. Very disappointed.
