This was our first cruise with Royal Caribbean and we didn't go with any expectations. We did however manage to get a Grand Suite for only a little more than a balcony and thought why not considering we were travelling with another couple and the extra room would allow us to get together in private if we chose.

Well, what a pleasant surprise opting for a suite turned out to be. Alex, the Concierge, was very attentive and friendly making us feel very welcome and Simon, the waiter in the Concierge Lounge, was friendly and prompt with service, taking time to chat with us during the evenings. We didn't buy an alcohol package and so made the most of the 3.5 hours of free drinks available in the concierge lounge for suite guests (excludes Junior Suites, which our friends had booked unfortunately).

We found Captain Gustav to be very approachable and quite humorous. His crew were very diligent and showed great respect for their captain, the ship and their responsibilities on board. The Cruise Directors staff were fantastic, with plenty of activities to choose from during the day to keep us entertained. Rina was just fantastic when running an activity, making sure everyone felt included. Our steward preempted all of our requests and provided exceptional service to our cabin.

Grand Suite

Cabin GS

Sweet. Honestly paying the extra for a Suite in Sweet! Double the room of a normal balcony cabin. A luxurious bathroom with bath and twin vanities. A separate bar area and plenty of room to sit 6 adults comfortable or have 4 laze around easily. There were a few minor issues with the amenities, in that one wardrobe door hinge had pulled out of the frame and the attempted repair had left closing the door difficult and the PlayStation supplied for watching movies or playing games that we could borrow from the Concierge Lounge was broken and would not tune in to the TV and unfortunately could not be fixed until our return to Sydney but we just washed the occasional movie up by the pool and talking with other guests and the crew and had a fabulous time.
