A group of 21 of us went on this cruise-- so of course, overall, we had fun. We had parents, kids, friends, ages ranging from 5 to 65. We really liked the itinerary of 4 ports and thought the crew did a good job making New Year's eve fun-- so that was our highlights of trip. But there were several things that could have made this trip great that were lacking.

Most of us are more familiar with Royal Caribbean- on those ships, even the smaller ones, we have no sea sickness. On the Sun, the stabilizers seemed off and half our party found ourselves at the medical clinic to get Meclazine pills which made us sleepy. The weather was great, so didn't seem like a real reason to make the boat go so fast and wonky. One night it was impossible to dance at the Observation lounge without tipping over!

That problem really wasn't as bad our experience with service-- the waitstaff in the main restaurants were terrible-- not attentive, didn't get us half of what we ordered and downright rude. We couldn't help but compare to Royal Caribbean where we really connected with the staff and enjoyed meeting and talking with them. I realize that some of this may be due to the "freestyle" concept-- but since there were so many of us, we had a standing reservation every night (which somehow the maitre'd managed to mess up on occasion as well). We are really not picky people, but we like service with a smile and we are big tippers to people we connect with-- it is telling that none of us tipped in the restaurant all week. Perhaps the specialty restaurants were better-- we had tried to go to some, but with so many of us, they just couldn't accommodate us, unfortunately. The pool bar service is equally terrible-- the drinks were so bad-- I returned a premium margarita and another drink of day because they were so sour I couldn't drink them-- the staff added sprite and refused to let me return them for something else-- I think this is unacceptable, especially for $12 drinks. It is also impossible to get service at pool-- we ended up going to a different bar and getting our own drinks. We were also unimpressed with guest services-- when booking shore excursions, we were yelled at for not being in the right line-- there were no signs and we were there to spend money-- again, left us feeling discouraged with staff. Our cabin steward, despite daily requests, never refreshed our pool towels- our kids mentioned how the pool towels were treated like gold bricks-- we left them in pile on floor to be changed out for next day and our guy never touched them-- so strange.
