A 4-day "New Year's" cruise on the Imagination out of Long Beach was our first trip with Carnival in a number of years, and overall we were satisfied with the brief jaunt, although there were a couple of annoyances.

Check-in was efficient, our cabin was ready at the advertised time. Our standard "ocean view" cabin on Deck 7, although spare (think Motel 6 décor), was reasonably sized with sufficient room to move around the bed and plenty of closet hanging space, a smallish dresser with stool and a single straight-backed chair. Bath was typically compact but did have a relatively large shower. No fridge/mini-bar, hair dryer available by request.

Food is of course a major cruise item, and we were impressed with the dining room offerings. Carnival is slanted toward a youthful demographic so the ambience is somewhat less formal than on some other lines (if that's a priority), but the food & service were uniformly excellent.
