Just came back from a 9-nights cruise with NCL GEM to eastern Caribbean. We had 4 ports of call. St. Thomas and St. Maarten were full day visit. San Juan and Tortola was half day. We arrived San Juan at 3pm and left at 9pm. We heard that in the future NCL GEM will add one sea day before arriving at San Juan, so that San Juan visit will become a full day. Tortola was great, we did a shore excursion to Virgin Gorda and The Baths. Love it. Our excursion was delayed by about 1 hour due to local tour operator's late arrival ferry. GEM offered 20% discount of the excursion right before we got on the ferry and repeatedly ensured us that our excursion would not be shortened. It would be nice to have a full day at Virgin Gorda. We will put it on our wish-list for next time cruise.

GEM is a nice ship. Our cruise is after its latest refurbishment which was done about 1 month ago. This is our first time with Norwegian. We were not sure about the Free Style Cruise, which Norwegian is promoting. It turned out to be nice. Without fixed dining table, schedule and servant, we did just fine. The servants are as courtesy as other cruise lines. Obviously, they are not discouraged by the facts that they collect less tips.

On ship entertainments were fantastic. They are very family friendly. We enjoyed them with our kids (4 year, 8 year). The magician show, the juggler show are all so nice.
