From beginning to end, this was BY FAR the worst cruise experience I've ever had, and this was my 15th cruise. We booked this cruise ONLY because we didn't want air travel and this left in our own backyard. It was to be a much anticipated girls' cruise, four of us. The condition of the ship was absolutely disgusting. This was apparent the moment we stepped on board. Torn, frayed and stained carpet throughout the entire ship. Windows in such poor condition you could not see out. And oh, the food. First cruise where I actually lost weight. Honestly, the Versailles and the Aqua, the Blue Lagoon, the food was inedible. By the third night, we all decided we couldn't eat another meal there (Yes, Norweigian won. I think this is exactly what they want people to do). By eating the rest of our meals at the specialty restaurants, it tacked on an additional $100 to our bill. Unfortunately, there are no specialty restaurants for breakfast or lunch so we had to endure the market cafe or starve.

The public restrooms were disgusting. Either they were out of order or they didn't have toilet paper. Never witnessed anyone cleaning them ever.

We booked connecting window cabins on the 5th floor. Ugh. Everything was so tired and worn. The dressers squeaked so loud you could wake up the dead. The engine noise heard in the cabin was overwhelming. Our first night, we got zero sleep. It sounded like someone was sliding furniture across the top of our cabin. This lasted until 2:30 a.m. The second night, same thing. So we called the front desk and asked what the heck was going on. Meanwhile one of us (in our pjs) went upstairs to see what was above us. Ah-ha, it was the Aqua dining room. The next day, we went to the pursers and asked to be relocated. We were told there were no rooms; completely sold out. However, if we could wait until we got to Puerta Vallarta, which would be day 5 of our cruise, maybe the people who they were expecting to board there would be no-shows. We insisted that we talk to someone higher up; that we could not go another night with no sleep. We were finally introduced to the assistant hotel manager. All of a sudden there were rooms available. We were offered to move to two inside cabins at opposite ends of the ship. Of course we told them that that was not acceptable; that we had booked adjoining rooms for a reason and it was not comparable to what we booked. It was a girls' trip and we wanted to be together. Then ah-ha, all of a sudden there were two window cabins available. Unfortunately, they were at opposite ends of the ship too. When that also wasn't acceptable, they offered us the two inside cabins to "sleep in only" and we could keep our things in our existing cabin. We told her we would think about it, and at the same time, she was going to work on better accommodations. This has now taken four hours out of our first port dealing with this. When we got back to our room that afternoon, there was a message that there was nothing else available to us. So we would take the two inside cabin offers so we could all get some desperately needed sleep. We were told that those rooms were no longer available; they gave them "we think" to some other poor suckers dealing with the same thing we were.

Cabin Review

Cabin 01

Do not book on the 5th deck in the rooms that sit underneath the Aqua restaurant.  You will not get any sleep.
