We had been on the Eastern Caribbean cruise in 2012 on the Nieuw Amsterdam and found that trip to be most excellent in all respects so we were quite excited to go on another HAL cruise. Embarking from Tampa, this cruise was clearly geared for the over 70 crowd which seem to be the average age of most of the passengers. That didn't bother us as we tend to go for the more adventurous excursions. Most of the passengers were, in fact, local Floridians.

We embarked on Nov. 30th from Tampa pretty smoothly. We purposely waited until 1pm to arrive at the cruise port to avoid the initial rush and as a result, there was no line-up. My husband did get stuck behind a lady with a walker on the narrow gangplank but she was quite animated and fun to talk to.

We saw quite a few walkers and wheel chairs on this cruise, most of them waiting for elevators which made the stairs very open and free for use.

Cabin Review

Verandah Suite

Excellent room, lots of space and the couch was nice to relax on when it was to windy or rainy out on the deck. We couldn't find a way to actually turn off the heater/air conditioner which we would have liked to do so we could open our deck door and get some fresh air into the cabin.
