First of all, I had planned a 4-night cruise on the Carnival Paradise out of Tampa in November. Due to a fatal accident on I-75 I was held up in traffic for 4 hours and along with misleading directions to the port from Carnival's website I missed the ship. Carnival rebooked me on a 5 night cruise on the Fascination out of Jacksonville for December 6, which was a much closer port to me. I did not have the travel insurance and was happy that they consented to rebook me and gave me a better cabin.
On December 6, the incoming Fascination could not dock at Jaxport due to fog until about 2:30 pm, then it took hours to get everyone off the ship and be ready for new passengers to embark. I had arrived at the port at noon and didn't get to my cabin until 9:15 pm. It was a long long day of waiting.
Although I've been on several cruises before, I cruised solo for the first time and decided that it was not something I would do again. The ship was clean, people were friendly, food was good but I didn't find a lot I wanted to do. I read a lot, ate a lot, and rested a lot. I was ready to go home two days before it was over. I think this reflects more on me than on the cruise itself.
Cabin was great for one person, although the bathroom, while clean, developed an unpleasant chemical sulpher-like smell towards the end so I kept the door closed.
