I have an enduring affection for Carnival, after cruising Hawaii and Alaska on the Spirit. I have also cruised Celebrity, Seabourn, and Star Clipper: we are always very adaptable to our environment and have enjoyed every one of our cruises. This one was booked at short notice because we had to cancel a holiday in August, and needed a break to get us through to our main holiday in January.

Embarkation was smooth and trouble free, despite the renovations going on in the terminal. We got to our cabin and all was as expected..not new, but clean and well presented: I love the decent size of Carnival cabins compared to some others, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The soap was wearing a bit thin after a few days, but as soon as it was mentioned to our Cabin steward, new soap appeared: folks...if ever there is something not quite right, rather than complain, I always find that if you just ask, you will get!

We set about accquainting ourselves with the ship, and discovered it is the same as the Spirit, but with a darker decor, and lots of Urns. Carnival could do a nice little sideline in offering up these urns for die hard cruisers who have passed on..a little plaque would make a great memorial, we thought ( just kidding....although....) We liked the Piano bar and the Comedy Club: the shows were well executed, but not really our thing. The Gym was very good indeed..the equipment was plentiful, and mostly brand new, although you need to remember the pin machines and dumbells are in Pounds, not kilos.
