Sail Date: Nov 2014

My wife and I just returned from the November 29th sailing of the Summit. We were pleased to find that the majority of negative comments from earlier posts were overstated to the point that we almost made a the mistake of cancelling the booking prior to departure. I realize that much of what is said is subjective but the fact of the matter is that the Southern Caribbean Sailing was outstanding. This was our 24th cruise which gives us somewhat of a broad perspective on the good and bad aspects of the Ship, Crew and Amenities. Here are a few thoughts that I hope are of some help as you prepare your possible upcoming trip on the Summit.

Embarkation Day: Purchased two bottles of wine at the Port Store. Keep in mind that the two bottles were the allowed 750ml not 1.5L. From arrival time to boarding the ship it took approximately 15-20 minutes. Did a tour of the ship to get our bearings and found that level 4 was a direct route Stern to Bow or better said…Main Dining to Casino to Entertainment. Found our room clean and ready to go between noon and 1:00. Unpacked our carry-on and continued exploring. Our two large bags that were checked through showed up around 2:30. Our Room Steward, Ramon, came by while we were unpacking. Requested a few things. Contrary to past comments there was no problem getting ice service twice a day. 20 minute Muster Drill took place in the Casino less life jackets. Dinner was as requested late seating (8:30) at table for 6 (# 114 in the open area level 4 to 5). Our server, Ida, and her Assistant, Alexander, were excellent. We both brought a glass of our Port purchased wine to the table. No corkage fee.

Meals: With only one exception had breakfast in the Oceanview Buffett every morning. Not sure where all the “huff” came from on servings being prepackaged. Except for some fruit and yogurt I did not see any of the sort. In fact, on the first day we found (3) egg/omelet stations complete with breakfast meats and the like towards the back of the service area. After the first sea day one of the stations converted to pancakes and waffles. Wait time less than 5-10 minutes. Food and service was excellent.

Cabin Review

Cabin Inside Deck 8

Stateroom: 8119 Mid Ship two down from the library and elevators. Had some reservations about the elevators being so close but in hindsight, best location on the ship. Proximity to everything on other levels was perfect and best of all, very, very quiet. Plenty of storage space, touch pad safe, and large shower. What luggage doesn’t fit under the bed can be accommodated in the closet with plenty of space for our casual and formal ware.
