The Jewel is an older ship that is showing signs of wear and tear, but the staff works extremely hard to ensure that you have a wonderful time. We were impressed by the number of times we were approached by senior staff to ask if there was anything they could do to make our trip better. Clearly, management is embracing a top down approach to customer service, and we are most appreciative!

There are always things to nit pick at, but we firmly believe that vacation is what you make of it, and we enjoyed ourselves the entire time. If I had to list "issues", they would be that the beds are old and have visible indentations in them, which the housekeeping staff made an effort to address. The food quality seemed a bit under par on this cruise, descriptions on the menu were different from what was served, but everything tasted good - this is more of an issue if you have dietary restrictions. Activities were also a bit lighter than usual, but we also don't attend many of them, so this could just be a response to supply and demand. Hot tub enforcement was spotty as usual, but we feel this is more of a parenting issue than a policing one for the NCL staff.

Overall, we had a great time, and got to experience some new things, like watching the ship arrive into port during the daytime, due to fog. Very impressive feat to see how difficult it truly is, and how careful the cruise line is with regards to comfort and safety of its cargo. The lifeboat experience was interesting too! Those were some rocky waters, but the staff did a great job of getting us back to the ship safely, and I was grateful for my Dramamine!

Cabin Review

Oceanview Porthole Window

Cabin OG

This cabin was super small, the tiniest one we've ever been in! Or at least, it felt that way. Usually even the inside cabins have a small sofa, which makes the cabin feel longer. Our cabin was missing the sofa, and we asked the staff to remove an extra table to give us a little more room to move about. The porthole was cool, especially since you can close the door on it and seal it off to give you zero sunlight if you like to sleep in. The bathroom was very tight as well, an exterior storage closet for staff supplies cut into our cabin at an angle, leaving little room for your knees while on the throne.Oh, and the tender contraptions are a few floors away, but pretty much directly below the cabin, so you will hear noise on tender port days.
