This was my 39th cruise, 12th on Princess. I took this short cruise to get Elite status for my next cruise. They offered ship board credit that made it worthwhile. Embarkation was a breeze and I was able to get into my cabin right away. I had a balcony on Caribe 234 which was port forward, but spacious for one person and quiet. I carried my bag on and off so I unpacked and then headed to the buffet on Lido deck. This was very crowded, people entering from 2 sides and exiting in the middle. First evening Anytime dining was a disaster with people lined up out to the atrium and beyond. In addition, there was a band playing in the Atrium which made the congestion worse. The line didn't move at all and eventually we were told the dining room was full and to return at 7:30. The next night I made an adjustment and lined up earlier only to experience the same situation. I ended up at the buffet which had a pathetic offering. I was very frustrated and have never experienced this situation with Anytime dining before, as sometimes we are given beepers. Communication was poorly handled. The third night I went to the Crown Grill. When I called for a reservation, they told me they were full but to stop by. At 5:45 I went there to be told come back later and they would try to accommodate me. Eventually I was seated and the place was only half full. Something is sorely lacking in the dining department here.

Nevertheless, I found some enjoyable moments. The pools were swimmable despite gloomy weather and not at all crowded. The steam and sauna were relaxing. International cafe had good offerings. The shows were crowded standing room only. The comedian was mildly amusing. The Mariachi band was entertaining. There was a nice Happy Hour of sorts in Skywalkers for Elite and Platinum. Ensenada hasn't changed one bit. The best entertainment were the seals on the Ensenada pier fighting for space to warm up. I took the behind the scenes tour of the theater which was interesting, did some on board shopping to use up OBC. Happily, I received my elite pin on the last day.
