I booked a 3 day cruise on the Golden Princess and invited a couple (first time cruisers) to book a cabin and go as well. After the Golden located to Los Angeles and I started reading the reviews, many of which were very negative, I becamed concerned to the point of calling Princess and suggested that the reviews be sent to the staff of the ship. My worries proved to be unfounded. I originally booked the least expensive balcony cabin forwards Aloha deck; Princess gave us an automatic upgrade to a midship cabin. Weeks later I received an offer to upgrade to a mini suite at a very reduced price; I took the offer. Soon after that I received an offer to upgrade to a Owner's Suite (S207) at a good price and I jumped on that.

Embarkation was a breeze. The very helpfull greaters on the dock even gave our friends passes that would allow them to board with us even though they had no frequent guest status. From entering the building to opening the door to our suite took no more than 20 minutes. Our room was terrific with a very spacious balcony on the Sun deck. I believe this is the only Princess ship that has suites on this deck. We had the drink package and had no trouble with service. Food in the main dining room was good, at least equal to Celebrity, but the buffet was not quite as good as Celebrity. We had the extra cost Ultimate Balcony Breakfast and Dinner. The breakfast wasn't up to expectations, but the dinner was terrific. We invited our friends to that dinner and it reminded me what it must be like if you owned a superyacht; from drinks before dinner to desert it was great with the best main course we have ever had on a criuse ship and we have been on 23 cruises. It was a $100 couple but worth every penny; it was the highlight of the cruise. We enjoyed the main broadway style show but didn't attend any others. The disco (Skywalker's) was the most crowded I have seen on a cruise ship, which was a good thing, often they are half empty. Disembarkation was the fastest we have ever had; even customs was a breeze. All and all we had a great short cruise and would do it again. While not new and if you looked you could see signs of age the ships condition was not as bad as some reviewers indicated. Everything was clean and worked as expected.

Cabin Review

Cabin OS

Great suite. I liked the nice touch of each suite having an individual name; ours was the "Provence Suite". Plenty of storage, stocked no charge mini bar for the first round, jacuzzi tub and a separate shower, sitting area for my wife and a desk for me, and a very large balcony. Clean, in good repair with very good service.
