It's been 18+ years since my last cruise. This cruise was a surprise celebration for our daughter's 16th birthday. She wasn't certain of our destination until we actually pulled into the port via shuttle from the hotel, so that was cool.

We booked this cruise late after cancelling a reservation for an RCCL cruise due to recent reviews that were posted on Cruise Critic. Looks like we made a good call. The sweetest part of our cruise was getting a free double upgrade from inside cabin to a mid-ship balcony cabin. We got our cabin assignment as we were checking in our bags at the port, but it wasn't until we got on the ship and found our room that we realized what a blessing we received! I must say that the beds were very comfortable. I need a firm mattress for my back and was not disappointed.

The food at the buffet on Lido deck was very good. There was lots of variety and healthy choices. I am an early riser so I had two breakfasts each day. The Guys burgers did not disappoint and we really enjoyed the pizza as well. We were assigned Your Time dining in the Gold dining room and had 3 dinners there. It was very nice and the service was great. My only complaint was that there needs to be a more stringent dress code for dinner. Sitting next to folks in t-shirts and shorts took away some of the flair for me. I give the Liberty a 95 overall for the food. They need to visit New England to see what real cranberry sauce looks like. We enjoyed our thanksgiving meal in the dining room very much, but they served two drops or pureed cranberries with the meal. Being from SE Mass, it was a little disappointing. I did get a few extra drops upon request.

As mentioned, we got a free double-upgrade and were very pleased with the balcony cabin. Beds were very comfortable and there was ample space for the three of us. The bathroom was larger than expected as well. I liked the free safe service that was provided as well. We spent a little more time in the cabin than expected, so the balcony view was an added bonus.
