This was actually my 3rd cruise this year (what can I say...I love NCL!!). After taking 2 mid-size ships (Jade and Jewel), I was ready to take a big sized ship again. Because I have previously taken the Breakaway (its sister ship), the Getaway was familiar to me already as it is completely identical to the Breakaway (minus the colors of the Ropes Course and water slides).

We arrived at around 12pm and surprisingly, there really weren't that many people checking in. We then soon learned that a lot of people had already checked in. I always thought you couldn't check in until 12pm? Although we did use the Latitude Gold express line, it really didn't matter much as again, there weren't a lot of people checking in. As we were entering the ship, the environment was meh and wasn't very welcoming. When I took the Jade in May, people were pretty welcoming and it was pretty lively. I think NCL needs to really work on this.

We stayed in a mini-suite and as I have previously stated in my review of the Breakaway, it seemed just a teeny bit bigger than the balcony rooms. Apparently people said that the difference is in the size of the bathroom but then it makes me think "why do we need such a huge bathroom?). There was a problem with our shower as the water would drain very, very slowly. Water would accumulate fast if water was on for like a minute or two. Because of this, we had to control the speed of the water and also turn it on completely when using soap. This is a first for us. I thought our room steward was pretty bad. Besides the first day when we first entered our room, we just about never saw the guy again. The guy also struck me as particularly lazy. Besides the very first day, I never saw the couch again as my bed was always there. It was like he just assumed we don't use the couch as he never bothered 'turning up' the cabin. At times, he would fail to take out the trash and he even left his cleaning cloth on the night stand. We also had 3 people total in the room (my parents + me) but during the day before he turns down the cabin at night, he would give us two towels. Yes, I know all about trying to conserve water but I am not gonna use a towel my mom or dad just used. 3 people = 3 towels...c'mon man! Giving us 2 towels would be akin to giving us 2 beach towels for 3 people. Sometimes he also wouldn't give us the floor mat towel until after he turns down the cabin. Two thumbs down for this guy.
