We have been on many cruises (11), four of them river cruises. I am a history buff so the ship itself is important to me. The American Queen is the only Steamboat with overnight passengers in the U.S. Even the engine room is amazing to see. All the others on U.S. rivers are really barges with I/O drives, and the paddlewheel dragging along on the stern.
The food and service is outstanding. the entertainment is wonderful (Broadway quality). The American Queen is the largest of this type of riverboat, it even has Men's Smoking Room, and a Ladies Tea Room.
It has a nice gift shop, a Riverorian that knows his stuff, a small pool on the top deck, and an outstanding Pursers Office(they even mailed four boxes of stuff to our home on the last day).
