Six days after getting off the Quantum of the Seas, we boarded the Carnival Breeze. We booked this because my wife won a seat in the $100,000 Ultimate Blackjack tournament. It seems a bit exorbitant to do two cruises in such quick succession but it’s just the way the timing fell. I figured that it would be a unique opportunity to compare our experiences on competing cruise lines with the RCCL experience still so fresh in our minds. This was our 31st cruise. The number of cruises that we’ve experienced seems to come up on every voyage. Even experienced cruisers seem surprised to hear that we “play the field” by not sailing exclusively with only one line. However, it seems quite natural to us. Most of our sailings have been with Carnival and RCCL, but we have been on 4 other lines as well. Each of the lines has something that we like about them so sometimes we cruise for the ship, sometimes for the destinations and sometimes just because we can. We are often asked which line is our favorite and this past week on the Carnival Breeze underscores why this question is difficult for us to answer. We have been aboard the Breeze before (February 2014) and really enjoyed it, to the point that it is our favorite Carnival ship. But this time, I did not enjoy this ship so much. It is still beautiful, but even after a trying week on the maiden voyage of the Quantum of the Seas, (please read my review of the Quantum) the Breeze left a lot to be desired.

Embarkation could not have been faster and more breathless. Due to a flight delay, we boarded later than we normally would have, so the rush was over. I doubt 10 minutes passed from curbside to being aboard. Platinum status helps, but there were no lines and no waiting, anywhere.

I found the food to be sub-par across the board. While I do like the grilled deli sandwiches in the Marketplace, the selection of buffet items was woefully lacking, everyday. And the breakfast was awful. The 11 inch black hair in my bacon on the second morning topped it off. Yuck. We never ate in the Marketplace again, opting to have breakfast ashore, skipping breakfast or doing the SeaDay Brunch which, I admit, was better than I expected. I regret not calling the hair incident to the attention of the dining room manager.

This was a nice cabin. Spacious and more storage than we needed.
