With more than 25 ocean cruises on many different lines completed, my wife and I decided it was time to try the river cruising experience. We were somewhat concerned about the smaller scale of the vessels, so anticipated unreasonably few menu selections, fewer onboard activities, limited entertainment, boring excursions, etc. We couldn't have been more wrong! A Viking River cruise offers a top-of-the-line experience in every category - all of which are included in the price of the cruise! The smaller size of the ships allows for a much less regimented experience, with services cheerfully performed by all staff members, regardless of their primary job onboard. Trouble-free check-in, beautiful, well-appointed staterooms, included shore excursions at every port led by very knowledgeable english-speaking guides, sumptuous meals in the dinning room or on deck with included beer and wine, and enjoyable entertainment - often featuring performers from the local community. Can you tell we enjoyed it? No, we haven't given up on ocean cruising, but have already booked our next one on Viking.
