We booked a pre-cruise package through Celebrity for three nights in Rome. We chose the Empire Palace Hotel and were very happy with it. The hotel is in a neighborhood that contains many foreign embassies so we enjoyed walking around and discovering them. The area felt very safe to us and we never encountered any problems. The hotel is quite lovely. We had heard that the rooms were small and noisy. We did not find that to be the case. We had a king-sized bed, ample storage, and the bathroom was terrific. The amenities offered were plentiful and of good quality, the hot water was dependable and much appreciated after a long day of sight-seeing, and the robes, towels, and slippers were thick. We absolutely adored Blue Bar in the hotel. Along with drinks that are very reasonably priced, we were brought multiple munchies each afternoon, and when we went back late one night for a nightcap of red wine, we were served a lovely chocolate assortment. Our room on the fourth floor was extremely quiet. Breakfast each morning was included and offered a good variety of food. The dining room was not open at night but light meals were served in the room adjoining Blue Bar. The courtyard is a great place to sit and have a drink also, and there is live entertainment in Blue Bar each evening.

Upon transferring to the ship on November 1, we found boarding to be very swift and easy. We were impressed that our stateroom (Concierge 1 level, #1407) had everything already there for us. Our shore excursion tickets, tote bags, robes were all in place. Frankie, our room steward, appeared promptly and showed us the features of the room and asked for our preferences about ice each day as well as any other requests we might have. Our luggage was delivered while we were having lunch and we found the storage space to be more than adequate. We had asked Frankie for more hangars which were there by the time we returned from lunch. We are crazy about the bathroom. There is lots of storage, the towels are thick and fluffy, and the shower has curvy sliding doors instead of a shower curtain. The bathroom is big enough for both of us to be in there at the same time which is quite an improvement over others we have had on other cruise lines. Our balcony is a good size with lounge type seating.

The ship is beautiful and very well-maintained. We never saw anything out of place yet the staff was never in the way cleaning or doing work in the public areas. Handrails and other objects that were touched by nearly everyone were kept constantly clean and polished, hand sanitizer was everywhere, so we felt well protected against germs.

Cabin C1

We found it to be very spacious. We were worried about spending two weeks in that one room, but it was so well-arranged that we never felt confine.
