First of all, I will NEVER cruise from San Juan again. Never ever ever. I made the mistake of purchasing RCCI's transfers. What a nightmare. Terribly "organized", you are lined up in the baggage claim area with your bags (assuming you find them), and one or two representatives goes through the lines in what seems to be a random order and scribbles on your transfer receipt (which never actually gets verified against anything). How to get to the front of the line? Speak spanish as your first language - a theme that recurred all through this cruise. Very overt. When you finally get to the front of the line, you are told to drop your bags off behind a rental truck which (god willing) brings them to the ship. Good luck, you have lost all control of your bags. Mercifully, ours showed up late that evening.
We decided to try Portofino's on the first night. We had difficulty with part of our group's reservations, we both had reserved online but they only had one. Don't worry, we were told, they'll be able to fit us in. So they were able to squeeze us in. There were two other people dining at the same time. Food was just okay in relation to the dining room and fortunately only one of us became ill that night (so I wouldn't recommend the risotto).
Lunch is only served in the Windjammer unless you wait until 2:30, when there is a small sandwich shop that opens up in the rear of deck 12 and is not prominently advertised anywhere. The Windjammer tends to be chaos with people not sitting with or controlling their children. And the food was not particularly good, "European Inspired" one day, "Caribbean Inspired" another, "Italian Inspired"... 90% of the food was the same each day. Hot dogs and hamburgers moved briskly.
Generic balcony room. Television choices are lousy.
