We took the 12-day Mediterranean cruise leaving Barcelona on November 2--always an iffy time of year weather-wise in Europe. The good news is we were very lucky, and managed to dodge the rainy weather just about everywhere we went. The Spirit is an older vessel, but the crew does a great job taking care of it, and minor issues like a clogged sink were taken care of immediately. My husband and I have sailed on Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Viking, as well as Norwegian in The past. And maybe with the exception of Viking, we found this crew to be one of the most cheerful and helpful of all of them. We had a balcony cabin on the tenth deck that we found satisfactory if a bit cramped.

There were passengers from all over, including a large contingent of guests from mainland China. We're from the USA, which is always the largest group, but we had many Canadians, Brits, Spanish, and Italians on board, too.

All the ports, except for Toulon, were amazing. And, as luck would have it, the only port where it rained hard during the day, was Toulon. We spent three days in Barcelona before the cruise, a lovely city you can just get lost in. The Italian port cities each had something great to offer. Rome of course. Pompeii and Pisa were our choices to visit (go to Florence if you've never been there; we had, so we went to Pisa for half a day). Greece, including Mykonos and Athens were wonderful. Istanbul and Kasadasi offerd us a glimpse of something truly different ( including the ruins at Ephesus). We took the ship's shore excursion in Rome, but made our own arrangements with Shore Excursions.com for Athens, Pisa and the Amalfi Coast, Istanbul and Ephesus. We found them to be very good and received some significant discounts from them.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

The cabin was a bit cramped and the bed a bit hard. But the bathroom was amongst the biggest we've ever had. You could even turn around in the rectangular shower! All in all, we were comfortable and the mid-ship location helped during our rocky sea day.
