Sail Date: Oct 2014

We went on holiday with two friends who had never cruised before. We had spent a week on the Thomson Spirit about 10 years ago in the Western Mediterranean and had a great time. The registration process went well and we were soon aboard the Thomson Majesty but with the heavy rain outside we were a little damp. Our suitcases nearly beat us to the room but we were not there long as we looked for somewhere to eat but as it was after 10pm all the restaurants were closed and we settled for the self-service buffet on a chilly deck 10. We then had lifebelt training followed by a few pints. Day one ended there.

Day two was a day at sea and we sorted out a couple of trips, one to Athens and the other to Olympia, well worth it. One word of advice on drinks is careful if you decide on the wine package as the discounted price (DP on the list) is not the price but the discount you receive. We thought we were paying around £30 but in fact it was nearly £70, fortunately we received a refund. The drinks package is also expensive. We decided to pay as we go and found it ok. The bar staff are brilliant and always had a smile for you.

Anyway we soon settled down to life on board, breakfast was self-service buffet in either the Seven Seas Restaurant or on Deck 10, we mixed and matched. Our evening meal was either in the Seven Seas or Four Seasons, both waiter service with a good menu. Self service was available back on deck 10 but as we had been up there for lunch and afternoon tea we decided to have someone serve us. The service in the Four Seasons was quicker and some times seemed a little rushed but we liked it. The attraction of the Seven Seas was the mini concert by the waiters every night, good fun. We attended the second sitting of the Captains Dinner (pre- allocated sitting), which was black tie, but the meal lasted ages and we were still eating at 10:30pm, too late. The food on the ship overall was great but I must admit better in the restaurants. There is a Bistro but as there was a £20 cover charge we did not visit.

Cabin Review

Cabin Outside twin

We chose an outside cabin on deck 3 and were aware they were smaller than inside. With it being a twin room both of us could not get out of bed at the same time, which sometimes caused a clash of heads. The TV needed re-tuning but that was easy enough but we hardly had it on although it did show movies all day if you wanted it. Storage space was limited but the bathroom was large enough. We were not really to disappointed as we only went to the room at night. If you need more room, book a double as they looked bigger. We were glad to be on a lower deck and we had a couple of choppy nights and there was more movement on the upper decks than below. Fantastic nights sleep though.
