So we decided to visit America by sea and Cunard had a good deal on QM2 so we were going to do it in style. It was only our second cruise (first was on P&O Ventura) and my partner had some concerns at the number of sea days but it turned out they were unfounded.

We drove to Southampton and family took the car home so drop off was simple and the embarkation was very smooth we were in our cabin within 45 minutes from arrival at port. There wasn't an obvious map in the foyer to help you orientate yourself in order to find your cabin however by going to our floor it wasn't difficult to find our way there and I had studied the deck plans when our cabin was assigned so had a rough idea of which side we were on. We had been a little worried that with our cabin being close to a stairwell we might be disturbed by noise but we rarely heard voices and the occasional "ping" from the elevators was distant enough to ignore. The cabin had the advantage of being one floor above the entrance to the Britannia restaurant which was very handy for dinner (& breakfast although you enter from the lower deck for that). The sheltered balcony was nice, deeper than the balcony we had on Ventura. No tea/coffee facilities in the room which is a shame. Room service is all well and good but if one of you is asleep its very disruptive and while service was always prompt getting through at peak times could be an issue. It also means there are no little packs of biscuits so take your own if you like one with your tea! Our room steward was very good, he kept the room clean & tidy & was always friendly and helpful.

To the ship itself - we were impressed. Everywhere was clean and well maintained (fighting rust spots on an ocean liner is a never ending job) Lots of people perambulating on the deck weather permitting though on the days too windy to go outside it didn't ever feel crowded inside. Spectacular (& fragrant) flower arrangement in the Grand Lobby. We found our way around quite easily though were occasionally confused on decks 2/3 as to whether we were fore or aft and what we should expect to be near. Getting to staircase A sometimes was an issue depending on your starting point.

Cabin Review

Balcony, sheltered

Cabin BD

Pleasant cabin a little narrow round the foot of the bed, enough hanging space, hairdryer, strongly sprung balcony door. Shower room wasn't bad & we didn't have any problems with anything, toiletries were replenished as needed.
