I was on the Jewel of the Seas last month for a 7 night Southern Caribbean: St Croix, Antigua, St Lucia, Barbados, St Maarten. This was my 20th cruise, and 16th on Royal Caribbean.
We arrived a couple days early in San Juan. Having been there a few times, it is a beautiful city, so I highly recommend extending your stay. I always stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan. It is steps from the historic sites and right on the bay. NOTE: The Sheraton Old San Juan is located at a cruise terminal, but Royal Caribbean does NOT use that terminal. Royal Caribbean sails out of the PanAm terminal across the bay - which is only a short taxi ride away. Anyways - I highly recommend the Sheraton.
Embarkation was fast and easy, as always. We dropped off the luggage and was on the ship in less that 20 minutes. We arrived at the terminal around 12. Lunch in the Windjammer got us started.
The grand suite was very nice, clean, spacious, and well appointed. The bathroom was very large with double sinks and a tub/shower. Gilchrist & Soames amenities are provided in the bathroom. The room has plenty of closet and drawer space and a nice bar area. There is plenty of room to relax in the sofa area. The bed was very comfortable. Their is a large curtain to separate the sitting area from the bed for privacy or if someone is an early riser and doesn't want to wake their partner. The balcony was huge with a table, a couple chairs, and a lounger. Service was fantastic.
