This was the second cruise for my wife and I on Norwegian. We first cruised Norwegian in Hawaii about 12 years ago. So we thought we would give Norwegian another try. The Getaway is beautiful but there are many things that Norwegian could do better. Check in was OK but we had water bottles in our carry on and security checked everyone of them. We also were not allowed to pass through secuirty with an open bottle of water. It had to be tossed or drank. Never had that occur on other cruise lines. Sort of made you feel like criminals.

Once on board we explored the ship. We are active adults 55+ and like dancing and entertainment venues. The Getaway definitely has much to do in these areas.

Once our cabin became available, we settled in on deck 13 mid ship balcony. The room was nice and eco friendly, but the balcony was very disappointing. We spend quite a bit of time on our balcony by enjoying coffee in the morning, wine at night, or just quiet time away from the crowd. So this is one reason we wouldn't sail Getaway again. Also, smokers can still smoke on the balcony and the smell bothered my wife.
