We have done several river cruises but none as quiet and relaxing as the River Douro in Northern Portugal. It is a beautiful area of the country and when we weren't relaxing, as the ship gently transported us from town to town, we were being entertained by the excellent included excursions.

Our trip started with a two day stay in Lisbon including a tour of the city. The hotel was ideally placed and within easy walking of the centre. It was a very pleasant start to our holiday.

The coach trip to Porto was an excursion in itself which included sight seeing and lunch. At the University of Coimbra we visited the Chapel and Library where we learnt that a colony of tiny bats live and during the night they eat any insects that could attack the 200,000 volumes housed there. During lunch we were entertained by the Coimbra Fado singers and musicians.

Cabin Review

Cabin Veranda

The cabin was very comfortable although there was little free floor space. The bathroom was very clean and had all that was needed including a good shower. It was well positioned in the ship apart from the first night when we were moored in Porto opposite a night club. After that it was peace and quiet all the way.
