We were very happy we took the Danube Waltz cruise with Viking. We took, and recommend highly the pre-cruise extension to Prague, which was a fascinating city. We were accommodated in a lovely hotel, which was within walking distance of old town. The on site Viking reps in the hotel were very helpful in recommending places to see and eat. Our local guide was fantastic. Also, we took the optional extra excursion to Kutna Hora, which took us out of the capital to a small, historic town. We enjoyed the Folkloric show, even if it was a bit "touristy." Still, the dancing and musical entertainment was livelly and fun. Based on the Prague pre-trip, I wish we'd taken the post-trip in Budapest, because one day there wasn't long enough.

As with any cruise, it's a bit frustrating to have limited time in port, but this cruise enabled us to visit countries we might not otherwise have seen, 4 European capitals, and some charming small towns. The day we spent seeing Melke and Durnstein was our favorite. See the magnificent glass museum and also St Stephan (largest church organ in the world) right at the dock of Passau. Castle Hill in Budapest has wonderful views, and great historic structures. We'll never forget sailing through Budapest at 11PM when the whole city was lit in gold. MAGNIFICENT and thanks to the Captain for doing that. The Viking crew was outstanding, and we enjoyed several nights of local entertainment on board. In one city, the chef had a food tasting for us in a local market. One night was an "Oktoberfest" on board. Love that the basic port excursions and unlimited wine/beer at lunch and dinner are included in the price We thought that parts of the Legend needed some updating, especially after needing to cut through some of the new Viking Longships to reach the docks. Still, we've already booked another Viking trip in France next year. Very positive experience!

Cabin Review

Cabin French Balcony - middle deck

Plenty of room, comfortable and well kept. Enjoyed being able to open the French balcony window to hear the sound of the water as we sailed along. If you are looking to economize, it's easy to go up one level to the covered deck or sun deck and do without a window. Many people who were in cabins near the anchor and engine end of the ship were GREATLY disturbed by LOUD grating noise during the night when the ship was going through a series of locks, or when the anchor was being lowered to dock. I wear ear plugs, and my husband can sleep through anything so we weren't disturbed, but ASK about what kind of noise you can expect where your cabin is, and TAKE EAR PLUGS if you're worried about losing sleep. I suggested that the reception desk keep ear plugs to prevent middle of the night passenger anger, but don't know if they took my advice.
