Sail Date: Oct 2014
Cabin: Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

This was my first time sailing with Royal Caribbean. My husband and I traveled with Norwegian cruise line about 6 years ago on a little ship called the Majesty and had a good time despite some rough weather. This time the weather was perfect for the whole trip (thank God), there were no mishaps and we had a wonderful superior balcony stateroom. Before our cruise we stayed in the Country Inn and Suites, which is about 5 minutes from the port. We had a large room with a Jacuzzi which was fun. We enjoyed dinner the night before at Rusty’s Waterfront Restaurant. I highly recommend them. They have nightly live entertainment, a beautiful view, and great food and drinks.

Embarkation: We left on the 10:30 am shuttle for a short wild ride to the port (traffic was heavy). We arrived in little time and did not have to stand outside for very long in line. The first line moved swiftly (especially for those with passports). The second line was not so fast. We had a nice older lady who was new and very slow. Eventually we boarded and found the Windjammer. The food was ok. Personally I preferred the Jade section of the cafeteria because the only meat I eat is fish. The first 2 days the fish was dry in the Windjammer and in the dining room. The salads, seafood pasta dish, lobster, and most desserts I had were very good! My husband enjoyed the steaks and soups as well. The pizza was just alright, not New York style but it sufficed. On Norwegian you can sit almost anywhere you want anytime you want. With Royal we were given an assigned table and time. It was ok, just not what I was used to. I think it is more romantic to have a table for two sometimes. On vacation I like to relax and not have to be so formal at dinner all the time. Our table pretty much dressed up every night. However we were blessed to have some really nice table mates and we will miss their company!

Cabin: Was great! Yes it was a little worn but what do you expect after so many guests? I would highly recommend getting a balcony room for the beautiful scenery if not the bigger size. I also saw a junior suite and it was not that much difference in my opinion. It just had a tub and slightly bigger balcony. The junior suites also do not get any perks. Maybe one day we will splurge and upgrade to a real suite. The bed was heavenly. Royal Caribbean has their own line of bedding and I may have to get some. Our steward John, was very helpful, always courteous, and always in a good mood. This cruise and the other we were on, have the most hard working people I have ever seen. They work nonstop to make sure you have a good time and you have everything you need. I really appreciated them! Not to mention now I have to cook, clean, and cut my own food again. Lol. Oh and that reminds me of room service. Loved it. But just to warn you, if you order your food from the TV interactive menu it may not come exactly like you ordered it. You will get what you ordered but it may not be on the plate you wanted it on. Not a problem for me but may be for people with allergies. Hint: The last night you will be given an envelope and will have an opportunity to give an additional tip to anyone you like.

Room was very quiet. Our steward John, was very helpful, always courteous, and always in a good mood. Our room was on the opposite side of the ship from the Windjammer so we had plenty of exercise.
