Cabin: Spa Balcony Stateroom

Let me first say that this was my 17th cruise and my wife’s 7th and we are both travel agents. I haven’t been on a NCL ship in many years due to a bad experience with NCL. When they announced the Getaway I decided to finally try them again and immediately booked the Getaway, 18th months out.

We were not disappointed this time!

We flew into Ft. Lauderdale (it’s less expensive for us flying in from Phoenix to fly there instead of Miami) the day ahead of time and stayed at the Staybridge Suites in Plantation. I had never stayed at a Staybridge before and I was impressed with them. They are similar to Residence Inn. All suites with a separate living area and bedroom. Also a full kitchen. They had a nightly happy hour Mon-Thurs. and full breakfast each day. The rooms were quiet, clean and modern. The breakfast was the usual fare and quite adequate.

Spa Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B9

We then went to our cabin. #12122 a Spa Balcony port side. The cabin is the same as other balcony cabins but it gives you access to the Spa’s Thermal Suites for the week. Anyone can get that access as well for $199 PP. The only other difference is that the décor is light woodgrain vs. dark in all other balconies. What is nice on this ship and the others in the class is the shower/bathroom. It is larger than most ships and it actually has a glass shower enclosure so the curtain isn’t clinging to your butt. A nice touch. The balconies are a tad smaller then on other ships we have been on, but still functional. The bed was perfect. Overall the cabin was great the spa was right above us so getting to the thermal suites was easy. The thermal suites are a nice indulgence. I am a water person and usually hang out near the pool when I can. That can be a challenge on this ship especially on sea days. There are only 2 small pools and they are very crowded. So if you want to be in or near the pool you better stake out a lounge very early in the day. I spent my time in the spa. There is a large hydro-pool, a smaller therapy pool, a hot tub, salt room, 2 saunas, a steam room and the heated tile loungers overlooking the bow. Very relaxing! Also lots of towels, and refreshments, and never crowded.
