We are regular Cruisers with Carnival (Gold Level) and Love it ! We booked this Cruise with Early Saver and did well with Onboard Credits. This was an Anniversary and Wife’s Birthday Celebration for us and my Wife’s Brother and Best Friend just got Married so we purchased them this Cruise as a Honeymoon-Wedding Gift. We had all our Excursion and Island plans made and then came Hurricane Gonzalo. Let me first say Carnival did the Safe, Proper and Correct thing by changing the Itinerary. All that being said this Cruise is more expensive because the Itinerary is Higher End going to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay. Carnival chose to change the Itinerary to Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize and Isla Roatan. Isla Roatan is always Great, so that is a Great replacement for Half moon Cay. The rest of the Itinerary is not even close. Carnival dropped the ball this time by first not giving enough notice and time to allow Guests to exit the Ship and be refunded. Carnival could have also opened up the Internet and Cell Tower for Free to allow Guests to notify Family they were not in Danger by Sailing into Hurricane Gonzalo and also notify Non-Carnival Excursion Vendors of the change in Itinerary.

Costa Maya was depressing at best with Soldiers walking around with Machine Guns with loaded clips and Pushy Vendors. We made due with an Amazing Dolphin Encounter Excursion in Cozumel. Belize is Poor and the Zoo and City Tour Excursion was Bland at Best. Our Empress Deck Balcony Room was Great and the Service Perfect !! The Dining Room Food and Service was Inconsistent. The Chocolate Melting Cake was either Over-Cooked or Raw. Couldn't get properly cooked Eggs or English Muffins in the Morning. The Buffet was also inconsistent in quality leading to long lines at Guy's Burger Joint, the Pizza Pirate, the Blue Iguana Cantina and the Fish and Chips. Guy's Burger Joint was Great !! Entertainment was Excellent. All the Shows and the Comedy Club Rocked !! The Taste Bar was Very Good. Drinks were Great. All in all we took Lemons and made Lemonade. Carnival should have gone Above and Beyond and Compensated all the Guest in some manner for the change in Itinerary. Although it was out of their control, the choice of Itinerary was a Downgrade. Perhaps Jamaica in place of Costa Maya and Grand Cayman Island in place of Cozumel or Belize would have lessened the blow. Well, we are off to Alaska with Carnival in May and hope to have better results !!!!
