I highly recommend taking a Canadian cruise in October - the weather is refreshing and the colors fantastic! The Ruby Princess served us well. We enjoyed the spread of food and the Canadian ports. Disappointments were that it was too windy for the tender boats to get to either Saguenay or Gaspe (the ports we were most excited to see!) - and we felt that the opportunities offered by the ship for these two last-minute sea days were pretty lame (although hanging out in the Skywalkers Lounge while passing through the Saguenay fjord was a highlight). Princess advertises that it has some Education at Sea opportunities, but I hardly think you could call it that. The had a vegetable carving demonstration offered, but it was before they finished distributing the revised Princess Patter for the day so no one knew about it in time. It was hard to tell when they would advertise things like acupuncture, nutrition info sessions, gem information or digital camera classes if they weren't really just advertisements to get you to buy something. We avoided them since there were presented in either the spa or stores (the typical $$$ areas). On our one true sea day, they offered the behind-the-scenes tour of the stage and a cooking demonstration - and those were really wonderful. I don't understand why they don't have even one naturalist or historian on board to give information about the cultures or areas we are visiting. It just seemed that they were missing a segment of folks that were traveling to learn and not as interested in bingo and shopping and gambling (I do realize that they have these since they are money-makers - but if they want to make some money on the rest of us, try something different).

Two other suggestions:

We stayed at the Clarendon pre-cruise and it was fine, a bit crowded in the lobby, but it is so centrally located and with check-out time at noon, we loved its accessibility to everything. We flew into Quebec City on Delta - and with booking our tickets six months in advance, the fares from Philadelphia through NY were in the $60 range - can't beat that (although we did have to pay for our luggage).

C525 on Caribe Deck (deck 10) is a great room. It was very quiet except for a slight vibration when in port. As an inside room...it is completely dark with the lights out so you will not know when it is morning without a clock. When there was motion in the theater, the room would be much more stable so if you are adverse to motion, the room will serve you well. The main deck for eating is 15, and for shows or exiting, deck 7 or 6. The room sort of splits the difference so you can walk the stairs when the elevators get crowded (which they do alot).
