After reading several negative reviews, I feel compelled to defend the Splendor, which is a fine ship with a hard-working crew. It does have issues - many can be traced back to corporate management - but I just returned from my 4th sailing on her this year, and had, as always, a good time.

I'll start in the dining rooms, where I do think there is room for improvement. Several years ago, Carnival made cutbacks in the dining room that have made a big difference in the overall experience. One of the biggest was cutting back from teams of 2 waiters covering a few tables to teams of 3 waiters covering many more tables. Plus, waiters now have to perform the functions of the sommeliers. As a result, it's hard for the waiters to give personal attention - so things like remembering you want coffee, or a roll, or milk instead of cream, etc. don't happen as often. But they do a decent job of getting the food to you and are usually friendly and accommodating. On our cruise, the Maitre 'd and ADM were both friendly and visible.

The food itself was a mixed bag. The desserts and appetizers were, for me, better than the main dishes. A few standouts are the crab cake, the gazpacho, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, creme brulee, grand marnier souffle, and warm chocolate melting cake. The lobster and shrimp were good on formal night. I am not a fan of the Lido (buffet), but the deli sandwiches are good. Wish they had turkey burgers though.

Cabin Review

Interior Upper/Lower

Cabin 1A

2202 is a great cabin, for one person especially. It's almost like a suite with separate living and sleeping areas. You can only see the tv from the bedroom though. It's convenient to the lobby and theater. The wave-crashing and anchor-lowering(?) noises can be very loud, but overall, I really liked the cabin.
