Ship: Many cruise lines seem to provide better service on their slightly older/less glitzy ships. I think it starts with the captain and we’ve had great experiences with him in the past. Our hotel manager, Frank D'Amicus spends huge amounts of time out interacting with the passengers and apparently this pays off. His entire staff did everything possible to make sure we had an exceptional service.

Dinning: The Sky was apparently constructed prior to freestyle dining and the buffet area was indeed considerably smaller with less selection than other NCL ships we've been on, but on a four day cruise this did not seem to be an issue and the crew did some upgraded culinary events around the pool this time that really made the voyage special. We also got a real treat on this cruise: the ship’s concierge, Yohira, was kind enough to magically treat us to breakfast in the upgraded dining room. We felt spoiled rotten and don’t know how we will ever manage when we have to return to “normal” on the next cruise! Being a foodie, I can see why people decide on booking a suite.

Ports: The water is clear and warm in the Bahamas (September/calm weather) so we went swimming/snorkling both in Freeport and on the NCL's private island. In both cases, we simply stepped off the beach and floated around in shallow water close to shore. Snorkeling was surprisingly good on Stirrup Cay. I went into the water early before the crowds arrived. It was very clean/clear and I saw 20+ types of brightly colored fish in the first ten minutes.
