A lovely vacation but the ship itself struggles to score anything much above average.
To my mind the Epic is a ship that is designed for people who don't really care weather or not they are on a ship. By this I mean that on the other cruises I have been on one of the great pleasures of the vacation has been to be at sea, to see the ocean and the passing scenery from public rooms, restaurants, bars - yet with the Epic the ship seems designed like a Las Vegas casino - removing any sense of its relationship to its surroundings. You barely know that you are at sea for the majority of the time unless up on deck, and the ship's public rooms and restaurants all seemed designed to focus attention away from the ocean and onto revenue collection.
The spa area is fantastic and well worth the money spent for the pass. It provides a (mainly) quiet retreat from the crowds elsewhere on the ship. Gym is also a great size and very well equipped.
A very nice oversized cabin. It is designed to be wheelchair accessible but I was allocated it as a last minute booking. The automatic door on the cabin takes a bit of getting used to, you have to allow it to close in its own time or it will close then re-open by itself allowing any passers-by an excellent view into the cabin and whatever you might be doing inside. The size of the sink is a terrible design flaw and the surrounding floor was regularly drenched. Definitely worth getting a balcony on this ship as a refuge from the throngs of people. This cabin has a lovely deep balcony. By and large a very quiet cabin but was definitely woken by the vibration of the ship coming in to port.
