Having read a number of negative reviews about the Island Escape, we felt it appropriate to let readers know of the great week that we've just had on their “Escape to the Mediterranean” cruise. We chose this particular cruise because of its itinerary. My wife and I travelled with our adult son who is in his 20s and has a disability which requires him to use a stick to help him walk.

We flew to Majorca from Birmingham on the 6am flight, arriving in Palma at around 9.30am. Staff from Thomsons were at the airport to direct us to coaches waiting to take us to the terminal. Processing at the terminal was much smoother and quicker than we've experienced elsewhere and we were able to board the ship and go to our cabin straight away. We had chosen an outside cabin, with my wife losing the toss to sleep on the top bunk. Although on previous cruises with other lines we have had balcony cabins, the cabin we had was roomier than expected and perfectly comfortable and adequate for a week's cruise.

After a quick exploration of the ship and its facilities we disembarked and had a lovely day exploring the sights of Palma. We returned for a very thorough safety drill and then had our first dinner in the Beachcomber restaurant which seemed to us to be up there with other self service style restaurants on other cruise ships that we've been on. The choice of the food was very good, and the staff were very pleasant. However, with people up and down all the time, it wasn't a particularly relaxing atmosphere. We then joined the customary leaving party on the pool deck and thoroughly enjoyed listening and dancing to the 'Groove Kats' as we left Palma.

Cabin Review

Cabin Outside

We had a 2-4 berth cabin, using the 2 lower beds and an upper bunk. The cabin was roomier than expected and perfectly adequate for 3 adults. The room had a well equipped shower and toilet. The televison, although not a flat screen, was again perfectly adequate. There was plenty of room to stow our empty suitcases under the beds and in the hanging space. The only critiscisms were that there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and there were only 2 US style electic sockets and 1 European style electic sockets that could be used for charging. We hadn't brought any European style adapters with us because we had understood that the ship only had US style sockets
